Decription:

Adraka-Fresh ginger

Sunthi- Dry ginger

Rhizome of ginger is used as a spice, it is very juicy and fleshy .Due to its warm potency it is a common ingredient of the food articles eaten in winter season or cold environment.

 

Ayurvedic Properties:

Rasa

: Katu (pungent)

Guna

: Laghu (light), snigdha (unctous), guru (heavy), rooksha (dry), tiksna (bitter)

Vipaka

: Madhura (sweet)

Virya

: Ushna (hot)
Doshakarma : Alleviate kapha and vata dosha

 

Chemical constituent:

It contains 1-2% of volatile oil containing camphene, phellandrene, zingiberine, cineole and borneol. Gingerol-a yellow pungent liquid. Active principle is an oleoresin-gingerin. It also contains resin, starch and potassium oxalate.

 

Useful parts: Scraped and dried rhizomes

 

Home Remedies:

Fresh juice of ginger mixed with honey is useful in  productive cough.

 

Medicinal Properties:

Appetizer, expectorant, stimulant, aromatic, digestive, carminative, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, blood thinner, lower cholesterol, sedative, antipyretic, antibacterial.

 

Medicinal uses:

Indigestion, flatulence, pain in the abdomen hemorrhoids, tastelessness, cough, hiccup, asthma, cold, fever, motion sickness, nausea, heat cramps, heart diseases, inflammation, obesity, scurvy, rheumatoid arthritis.
