Description:

Therapeutic as well as spicy behavior of pippali shows its importance in herbs, dry and wet or fresh pepper long represents their action according to their need. Fresh pippali fruits in sweetish cold, produce kapha where as dried fruits is pungent, mild hot pacify kapha and vata dosha both forms have sweetish digestion.

Ayurvedic Properties:

Rasa : Katu (pungent)
Guna : Laghu (light), snigdha (unctous), tiksna (sharp)
Vipaka : Madhur (sweet)
Virya : Shita (cold)
Doshakarma : Alleviates pitta, aggravates vata and kapha dosha

 

Chemical constituents:

It contains aromatic oil,  piperine, alkaloid and pipalartine. Besides this it contains sesamin and piplasterol. The root contains pipperin,  pippalartin,  pipperleguminin, sterols and glycosides

Medical Properties:

Analgesic, anti-inflammatory, carminative, anti helminthic and haematinic, intellect promoting, appetizer, carminative, mild purgative, antibiotic, constrict uterine muscle. Root is aphrodisiac and fruit is blood purifier, cardiac tonic, rejuvenating

 

Medicinal uses:

Muscular pain and inflammation, flatulance, indigestion, poor memory, constipation, pain in abdomen, liver disorders,  spleenomeply, warm infestations anemia, cough asthma, urinary disorders, chronic fever, weakness, dysmenorrheal, amenorrhea, etc.
