Description:

The fruit [bud] of lavanga is one of the main ingredient of “Garam masala” used to flavour  vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian food recipes. Clove is aromatic having cold potency but hot, and pungent in taste. After being digested it is acrid in nature.

Chemical Constituent:

It contains volatile oil 20% which includes eugenol, eugenol acetate,

β-caryophyllene, phenols, ketenes, methyl salicylate, vanillin. Besides this it also contains tannins.

 

Useful part: Flower buds

 

Medicinal Properties:

Acrid (sharp or biting to the taste or smell), stimulant, carminative, febrifuge, diuretic, refrigerant, digestive, emollient (softening or relaxing ), expectorant, antihelmintic, rejuvenating tonic , opthalmic, antispasmodic, analgesic, cleans and heals the wound, strengthens the gums etc.

 

Medicinal uses:

Anorexia, haliotosis, asthma, cough, thirst,  vomiting [morning sickness], common cold, indigestion, tympanites, bronchitis, sore throat, hiccup, headache, dental caries, gum and toothache, antacid[because of cold potency], skin disorders, helps to remove Kapha in tuberculosis, fever, cephalagic neuralgia, lumbago, hyperacidity etc.
