Bulbous root and leaves are used in food preparations. The paste of garlic is main ingredient of curry, highly aromatic and very intense potency. It has all five tastes without sour.

Ayurvedic Properties:

Rasa : Madhur (sweet), lavana (salty), katu (pungent), kashaya (astringent)
Guna : Guru (heavy)
Vipaka : Katu (pungent)
Virya : Ushna (hot)
Doshakarma : Decreases kapha and vata, increases pitta


Chemical constituents:

Bulb contains moisture, protein, fat, carbohydrate, calcium, potassium, iron, vitamin. Essential oil -allylpropyl disulfide, diallyl disulfide. the active principle of arlic is alliin.

Medical Properties:

Anthelmintic, Antipyretic, analgesic, antibacterial, fungicidal, insecticidal, anti-inflammatory, diuretic, sudorific, helps to remove excess fat from the body.


Medicinal uses:

Hiccup, malaria fever, fever, facial paralysis, female genital tract disease, cardiac disease, obesity, fatigue, leucoderma, leprosy, insanity, epilepsy, rheumatism, disorders of spleen, lungs and liver, Artheralgia, dental caries, menstruation.
